Supplier Eligibilty Policy

The purpose of this Seller Eligibility Policy is to define the criteria that sellers must meet to be eligible to list products on the Great British Farmers Market.

This policy aims to ensure that the marketplace supports and promotes independent businesses, excluding chains, franchises, and similar entities.

Definition of a Seller

For the purposes of the Great British Farmers Market, a seller is defined as a self-employed person or an independent business that meets the following criteria:

1. Ownership and Control

  • The Seller must be privately owned and operated.
  • The owner(s) must be directly involved in the business's day-to-day operations and decision-making processes.

2. Business Structure

  • The Seller must not be part of a chain or franchise.
  • The Seller must not be a subsidiary or affiliate of a larger corporation.
  • The Seller must operate as a single entity without multiple locations under the same brand name.

3. Product Sourcing and Production

  • The Seller must primarily source, produce, or craft its products within the UK. However, the sourcing of speciality products from outside the UK is permitted under the following conditions:
    • Speciality products must be unique, high-quality, and not commonly available within the UK.
    • The Seller must provide documentation demonstrating these products' speciality nature and origin.
    • The Seller must ensure that all imported products comply with UK laws and regulations, including safety and labelling requirements.
    • Sellers must provide transparency in their sourcing and production processes.

4. Size and Scale

  • The Seller must be a small enterprise, which includes self-employed individuals, micro-businesses, or those operating part-time or as a "side hustle." Sellers may operate with minimal employees or no formal business setup, provided they meet the criteria of independently producing or sourcing unique products. This policy ensures inclusivity for smaller producers and artisans who may not yet operate at full scale.

5. Unique and Authentic Offerings

  • The Seller must offer unique, high-quality products that reflect the creativity, craftsmanship, or agricultural expertise of the Seller.
  • Products must adhere to high standards of quality and authenticity.

Seller Application and Verification

1. Application Process

  • Prospective sellers must complete an application form detailing their business structure, ownership, and product offerings.
  • Applicants must provide supporting documentation, including proof of ownership, business registration, and any relevant licenses or certifications upon request.

2. Verification and Approval

  • The Great British Farmers Market will review all applications to ensure compliance with this policy.
  • The marketplace reserves the right to request additional information or conduct interviews with the business owner(s) as part of the verification process.
  • Approved sellers will be notified in writing and provided with access to list their products on the marketplace.

3. Ongoing Compliance

  • Sellers must maintain compliance with this policy at all times.
  • The Great British Farmers Market reserves the right to conduct periodic reviews and request updated information from Sellers.
  • Failure to comply with this policy may result in the suspension or termination of the Seller’s listing privileges.

Exclusions

The following types of businesses are not eligible to list on the Great British Farmers Market:

  1. Chain stores or businesses with multiple locations under the same brand name.
  2. Franchises or businesses operating under a franchise model.
  3. Subsidiaries or affiliates of larger corporations.
  4. Businesses that do not meet the criteria outlined in this policy.

    Policy Amendments

The Great British Farmers Market reserves the right to amend this Seller Eligibility policy at any time.

Sellers will be notified of any changes and are required to comply with the updated policy to maintain their listing privileges.
