Creating Your First Product Listing on GBFM

What This Guide Covers

This guide shows you how to create your very first product listing on Great British Farmers Market.
It covers every step clearly, from adding photos to setting prices, delivery options, and product details.

If you follow this guide from start to finish, you’ll have a complete, professional product listing ready for customers to buy.

Where to Add a New Product

To create a new product:

  1. Log in to your Seller Dashboard
  2. Open the menu
  3. Click Products
  4. Select Add New Product

This will open the product editor, where you’ll add all the details.

Step 1: Add Your Product Title

Your title should be simple, clear, and descriptive.

Good examples

  • Strawberry Jam (300g Jar)
  • Hand-Poured Lavender Candle
  • Natural Honey from Yorkshire
  • Handmade Oak Soap Dish

Tips

  • Put the main item first
  • Add size or quantity at the end if needed
  • Avoid all caps, emojis, or long sentences

Your title is important for SEO and customer clarity.

Step 2: Upload Product Photos

Photos are one of the biggest factors in helping customers decide to buy.

What to include

  • At least three images
  • A clean main product photo
  • A close-up detail photo
  • A lifestyle or context photo (if relevant)

Photo tips

  • Use natural daylight
  • Avoid cluttered backgrounds
  • Keep colours accurate
  • Show the product from multiple angles

Include:

  • What the product is
  • Key features
  • What makes it special
  • Materials or ingredients
  • Size and weight
  • Directions or usage (if relevant)

Tone guidance

Keep it warm, simple, and down-to-earth.
You don’t need to oversell — just be clear and genuine.

Step 4: Set Your Price

Your price should cover:

  • Cost of materials
  • Labour time
  • Packaging
  • Delivery overheads
  • Platform commission
  • A fair, sustainable profit margin

Don’t undersell yourself — customers on GBFM choose authenticity and quality.

Step 5: Add Stock (Inventory)

Stock numbers help customers know what’s available.

You can choose:

  • Unlimited
  • A set number of items
  • Per variation stock, if you have options

If your product is made-to-order, keep stock small until you understand your workload.

Step 6: Add Variations (Optional)

Variations are useful for products with:

  • Sizes
  • Colours
  • Flavours
  • Scents
  • Volume or weight options

Examples:

  • Candle → Lavender / Rose / Citrus
  • Jam → 150g / 300g / Gift Pack
  • Craft item → Small / Medium / Large

Each variation can have its own price and stock level.

Step 7: Choose Your Delivery Options

This is extremely important and must be accurate.

For each product, choose:

  • Your delivery methods (Royal Mail, courier, etc.)
  • Free delivery thresholds (optional)
  • Local delivery/collection (if relevant)

Make sure the delivery type matches the product’s needs — especially for perishables or delicate items.

Simple Delivery Guide

Step 8: Select Categories

Choose one main category and one or two subcategories.

This helps customers find your products easily and improves site search.

Don’t add too many categories — keep it precise.

Step 9: Save and Publish

When everything is ready, click:

  • Save Draft (if you want to check later)
  • Publish (to make the product live)

Once published, your product will appear on the main marketplace and in your shop page.

Checklist Before Publishing

Make sure your listing includes:

  • A clear title
  • At least three photos
  • A warm, simple description
  • An accurate price
  • Correct stock amount
  • Delivery options
  • Relevant categories
  • Spelling and grammar checked

Once everything looks right, publish and celebrate — your first product is now live.

Your Next Steps

Now that your first product is listed:

  • Check how it appears on your shop page
  • Add a second product when ready
  • Share your shop link with your audience
  • Join the Seller Community Hub

You’re now an active GBFM seller — well done.
